Dr. Jan Vanderpool, founder and president of RAM Corporation, began building IT systems for friends and family, in Culver City, California. RAM worked with local businesses in both providing an educating about the emerging technology as well as access to a friendly, cost-effective means of acquiring and maintaining this new technology. After providing small business technology consulting services for the United States Small Business Administration and the Health and Human Services Department, RAM Corporation, in 1985,  became the first  company in California to offer a computer training couse for the State of California Employment Training Panel. The company expanded to include three locations in Los Angeles and Sacramento and employed fifty-three formerly unemployed persons.
